John Korir Breaks Boston Marathon Course Record With 2:01:52

Defending champion John Korir broke the Boston Marathon course record on Monday, winning in 2:01:52 — the fifth-fastest marathon of all time. The Kenyan beat Geoffrey Mutai's 2011 record of 2:03:02 by 70 seconds, breaking away from the pack at Heartbreak Hill in Newton and opening a 40-second lead. Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania finished 55 seconds back, with Benson Kipruto third and Zouhair Talbi fifth in 2:03:45 — the best time ever for a U.S. runner.
