Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, was charged with attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. Allen appeared in Washington federal court two days after authorities foiled the attack. He faces a life sentence if convicted. Prosecutors said he brought a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and three knives to Washington.
Allen, of Torrance in California, is being represented by lawyers with the federal defender's office and sat beside them in court in a blue jail uniform.
