정소영 전주성심여고 지도자는 11일 정강선 도 체육회장에게 "전북 체육역사기념관 조성 사업에 힘을 보태겠다"며 국내외 대회에서 받은 메달을 비롯해 기념품, 사진 등 53점을 전달했다.
전북 김제가 고향인 그는 바르셀로나올림픽 금메달을 비롯해 1994년 히로시마 아시안게임 금메달, 1990년 베이징 아시안게임 은·동메달, 전영오픈 우승 등 각종 국제대회를 휩쓸었다.
이 같은 공로로 그는 2003년 한국 여자선수로는 최초로 세계배드민턴협회 명예의 전당에 헌액됐다.
현역 은퇴 후에는 지도자로서 전주성심여고 팀을 이끌며 전북 배드민턴 부흥에 기여하고 있다.
전주성심여고는 지난해 전국체전에서 단체전과 복식을 우승하고 전국연맹종별배드민턴선수권대회에서도 단체전, 복식, 단식을 석권했다.
정소영 지도자는 "개인이 보관하는 것보다 많은 체육 후배에게 보여주고 싶어 소장품을 기증했다"며 "체육역사기념관이 조성돼 전북 체육의 위상이 높아지길 바란다"고 말했다.
