5月下旬、普賢岳のふもと、南島原市深江町の自宅倉庫で福島慎司さん（48）は妻小夜子さん（48）、母文子さん（76）とハウス栽培した桃「ちよひめ」1500玉の初出荷に追われていた。桃を包む白いネット状の「フルーツキャップ」と出荷用の段ボール箱は前日に慎司さんの長男で小学6年の雄飛さん（11）と次男で4年の岳さん（9）が仕分けをして組み立てたものだ。
福島家は代々、深江で畜産や葉タバコ栽培を手掛ける農家だったが噴火災害で暮らしは一変した。
