FT stats
B
By Brittany Carter
The penalty count was a contributing factor in this loss for the Vixens. You can't contest ball if you're out of play 23 more times than the opposition. The TBirds had more gains and importantly more clean hands to ball, winning that intercept stat.
And here we see how clinical the Tbirds were converting their centre passes and gains again. This is consistent with the stats we saw at half-time. They treasured possession they had and ensured it made it to the net. Once they'd fought back hard in the second quarter the rest of the match fell into place for them, rolling on with momentum in front of their home fans.
Van der Berg crowned MVP

In her debut season of Super Netball, the South African Proteas goal shooter has led her new team to a grand final. A total 51 goals at 90 per cent. That's consistent with her season average. Elmeré van der Berg was double tagged and barely had room to move in that first quarter but she kept grinding and as momentum turned with the defensive pressure of her teammates, she was a steady, reliable presence under the post. Well deserved.

Vixens captain Kate Moloney with another one of her famous rev ups. Asking her team to lift and asking them to reflect back on their win against the Thunderbirds and their other come from behind victories earlier this season.
"We don't have to go back too far to remember that we can win this game."

Casey intercept

Young midcourter Sophie Casey entered the game at WD in the second quarter and has been quietly going about her business. But on the second phase of the centre pass, she gets a great jump over a pass by Kiera Austin and turns over the ball for her team. It's converted. These are the repeated efforts from the Thunderbirds that make all the difference. It's a combined effort in defence, relentless right across the court.

TBirds timeout

Four and a half minutes into the final quarter and the minor premiers have taken their first tactical timeout of the game. Coach Tania Obst has reminded Van der Berg to present to ball and asked her team to take a breath. "We are in control here, but we've got to play our processes." Coming out of the break there's a key change. Georgie Horjus shifts into GA and Tayla Williams gets her first minutes of the day replacing her at WA. Frew to the bench.

Mix up Vixens shooters

Di Honey has left her third best shooter on to start the fourth quarter after that great super shot showing. It's nice to see that form rewarded but Lily Graham hasn't had a heap of court time this season, so her connection with Austin isn't as solid in live play as they'd like. Graham goes to pass to Austin but Austin wasn't expecting it and the ball goes out of court. It's a throw-in and another opportunity for the Thunderbirds. They add another to their tally and Graham heads back to the bench.

3/4T: TBirds lead 42-37

The Thunderbirds have well and truly recovered from their slow start to take control of this major semifinal. They'll need to find a better way to prevent the Vixens scoring super shots though if they hope to hold on here. Might even have to put some up themselves? We could see TBirds head coach Tania Obst potentially shifting Horjus into GA at some point in this final quarter and asking her to go after the long bomb.

Ahead of the super shot period, the Vixens injected young Lily Graham into the game. She's been missing for three weeks with an injury, but she makes an impact straight away hitting 2x two-point shots.

Sterling-Humphrey comes alive

By Brittany Carter
It was a flat start to the match for Sterling-Humphrey but her persistance is paying off. As the last line of defence she's come up with several intercepts and deflections in a short space of time and it is helping her team push out their lead. TBirds score five in a row. They're starting to own that home crowd advantage too as the crowd lifts with every effort from Sterling-Humphrey.

Vixens bad start to third quarter

Vixens concede early in the third quarter with a held ball call on Austin. Vixens tried to reset on the tranverse line in attack with a pass to Eddy but Frew wanted it more and it's lead to an offensive contact call on the Vixens WD. It means the Thunderbirds get on a roll to start the next period.
SCORE: TBirds lead 32-25
