QT: Melee at Perth Stadium - and West Coast hits the front
A
By Andrew McGarry
It's all happening at Perth Stadium!
Harley Reid is in everything right now. He earned another free at a stoppage, but his round-the-corner kick missed from 15 out!
The Kangaroos reminded him very loudly about it, and this sparked a melee in forward 50!
Unfortunately for North, Reid went down and received another free, and then Charlie Spargo brought down Brady Hough, giving away 50.
The Perth crowd went ballistic and it was frustration for North, as Hough kicked it from the goalsquare to give the Eagles the lead.
When the siren went, it was West Coast 3.4 (22) to the Kangaroos 2.5 (17). Oh dear. What will Alastair Clarkson have to say in the huddle?
Harley Reid narrows the gap for the Eagles

The Eagles have hit back - and you won't be too surprised at who's sparking the comeback!
Harley Reid contested a ball in the pocket and got the free for a hold. The crowd cheers, and the volume rises when he kicks round the corner and gets it through the sticks.
Despite their defensive woes, the Eagles are back within two points deep in time on!
Solomon speaks on links to full-time Essendon role

Essendon's interim coach Dean Solomon has responded to reports that emerged during the week suggesting he's been earmarked for the full-time role.
Eagles defence caught napping again - but Kangaroos can't make them pay
A
By Andrew McGarry
There are some warning signs for the West Coast defence here.
Nick Larkey contested a ball in the middle, was on the ground but managed a handball free, which went to a teammate and then long to Jack Darling on 50.
Instead of kicking for goal, he chipped to Harry Sheezel, who marked. But his kick missed!
The lead is just eight points, but the Kangaroos are getting way too many chances at set shots. Something is going to give here unless West Coast can raise their intensity.
A win would make a huge difference for Kangaroos

So if the Roo's can win win this how would it put then in finals contention or is it just another year of close miss's
- Bry
Bry,
North had a strong start to the year, but they have been off it for the last while and they really need the win, particularly after last week's triple-figure loss.
As things stand, the Kangaroos are in 14th place - but a win today would put them on the fringe of the top 10.
The big issue is their percentage which sits at just 87.7. They need a win, preferably by a decent margin. But if they can get the points today then finals - at least the wild card game - is right there for them.
Eagles answer through Liam Baker
A
By Andrew McGarry
That's better from the "visitors".
A stoppage in the middle sees Harley Reid feed out a handball, another pass finds Liam Baker, and the former Tiger unloads a straight kick from 50 for West Coast's first goal of the game.
Eagles' Davis in concussion trouble after tackle
A
By Andrew McGarry
That was a tough minute or two for West Coast.
Paul Curtis tackled the Eagles' Hamish Davis in West Coast's defensive 50 and brought him to ground.
Unfortunately Davis's head hit the ground, and he is in trouble.
He was helped off, and will have to do a HIA - unless he is immediately ruled out.
Pretty soon after, the Kangaroos hoisted a ball to the square, and Nick Larkey marked and kicked a goal.
North has the start they want, and a 12-point lead.
We hope that Davis is ok.
It's a hot footy early on
A
By Andrew McGarry
The pressure is on early for those with the ball.
Liam Baker just produced a brilliant smother and regather on the wing to negate a possible Kangaroos break down the wing.
There's only been one goal so far, but it's a true contest.
Who can break this one open?
Miss from Charlie Spargo for North
A
By Andrew McGarry
The Kangaroos are on their game early, and they have just managed a second mark inside 50, with a chip to Charlie Spargo.
But Spargo's kick fades late for a point.
That's disappointing, but the Eagles will be desperate to stop the Kangaroos from getting these set shots - sooner or later they will be made to pay if they can't.
Jack Darling puts the Kangaroos in front
A
By Andrew McGarry
The Kangaroos reply, and we might have an early answer to that question on Reuben Ginbey.
North had it on the right wing, and a kick to the pocket was marked easily by Jack Darling.
The former West Coast forward nailed the kick, and he didn't mind a bit of a celebration against his old club!
The Kangaroos hit the front.
Harley Reid wastes an early chance for West Coast
A
By Andrew McGarry
Well, that was nearly a perfect start for West Coast.
The Eagles won a centre clearance, the ball went downfield, and Harley Reid was given a (slightly soft) free kick for a hold.
He kicked from 30 out - but completely shanked it!
The Eagles are on the board, but that should have been a goal within 45 seconds!
Se are underway in the west

We are underway in Perth Stadium.
Can the Kangaroos take advantage of the absence of West Coast key defender Reuben Ginbey?
Recent results between North Melbourne and West Coast

R3, 2026: West Coast by 17 (Perth Stadium)
R14, 2025: Nth Melbourne by 10 (Bunbury)
R23, 2024: West Coast by 5 (Bellerive Oval)
R14, 2024: Nth Melbourne by 9 (Perth Stadium)
R20, 2023: West Coast by 5 (Perth Stadium)
R1, 2023: Nth Melbourne by 5 (Docklands)
This matchup has been evenly-split, with both teams winning three out of the last six, and five out of the last 10.
The Kangaroos will be looking to keep up their recent good record in WA, with wins at Perth Stadium and Bunbury in two of their last three encounters in the west.
We could well be in for a close one, if recent history is any guide — the most one-sided of the last six games was a 17-point margin, while the other five were all decided by 10 points or less.
Teams are in for Kangaroos vs Eagles
A
By Andrew McGarry
There are no late changes for either side - and you can see the lineups above.
There could have been any number of changes for the Kangaroos after last week's hammering by Fremantle.
In the end, the selection panel has made two - aside from the injured Riley Hardeman, out come omitted pair Zac Fisher and Wil Dawson. In come Tom Blamires, Cooper Harvey and debutant Taylor Goad.
The 207cm ruck/defender from South Australia has spent three years in the VFL after being drafted by North in 2023.
The big injury list from last week's game has tipped West Coast's hand, with key trio Reuben Ginbey, Willem Duursma and Tom McCarthy all unavailable. Malakai Champion has been omitted from the side.
In come Tom Gross, Josh Lindsay, Elijah Hewett and debutant Marcus Herbert.
Herbert is a half-back/midfielder who was taken in the mid-season draft after being Geelong's VFL best-and-fairest in 2025.
It's time for North Melbourne vs West Coast
A
By Andrew McGarry
Well, that wraps things up for game one of three of Saturday footy.
Next up we head west to Perth Stadium, with North Melbourne taking on West Coast in a "home" game.
The Kangaroos will be desperate to bounce back after last week's shellacking from Fremantle in Bunbury.
And the Eagles would love another win to move a little bit closer to an unlikely spot in the wild card spots.
Melbourne defender Jake Lever's still got it
A
By Andrew McGarry
Even with the game well decided late in the fourth quarter, Dees defender Jake Lever was not giving a thing away, providing a great smother to stifle an Essendon attack.
And he didn't mind a few high fives afterwards.
