Pies have three in five minutes

A

By Andrew McGarry

Ok, that wasn't great for the Tigers, but alarm bells are going at the MCG.

The Pies are getting repeat inside 50s, and this time Lachie Schultz gets a soft free kick for a supposed push.

Schultz makes the Tigers pay, and the lead is out to 18 points in very quick time.

After all the work Richmond did in that first quarter, it's being squandered in a hurry.

Lipinski adds a goal as Collingwood extends lead

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Pies have been all over it early in the second term, they've had two centre clearances and two kicks to in or around 50.

And now they have two goals! This time it's Patrick Lipinski who curls the ball home (just).

Suddenly the pressure is all back on Richmond.

Dan Houston puts the Pies in front

A

By Andrew McGarry

This will be frustrating for the Tigers.

Collingwood get a centre clearance and Darcy Cameron sets the midfield free. The ball goes to 50, for a mark and there's a handball to Dan Houston on the run-round, and he kicks it from the arc.

Magpies lead!

QT stats

A

By Andrew McGarry

Inside 50s: 15-10 Richmond

Clearances: 9-8 Collingwood

Centre clearances: 3-2 Richmond

Contested possessions: 27-22 Richmond

Uncontested possessions: 83-58 Richmond

Marks inside 50: 6-2 Richmond

Tackles: 23-11 Collingwood

The Tigers are giving themselves plenty of possession and chances. More of the same, with more composure will give them a shot at the upset.

QT: Richmond 2.3 (15) leads Collingwood 2.1 (13)

A late miss from Roan Steele and a poster / rushed behind finishes the scoring, and as the siren sounds it's all square at the MCG.

The Tigers will feel a little frustrated that they're not in front - they've had plenty of territory and opportunities.

They are having a proper crack at the Pies here, but they need to improve their finishing if they want to stay with Craig McRae's men.

Nick Daicos answers for Collingwood

A

By Andrew McGarry

And for all that work from Richmond, the Magpies answer quickly.

Nick Daicos kicks one to make it a two-point game deep in time on.

Alger kicks his second and Richmond extends lead

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Tigers are going all right here.

They have the advantage in clearances and contested possessions.

They are getting marks inside 50, and Jasper Alger gets one now - he snaps from the left forward pocket, and it's a goal!

Rhyan Mansell adds to the misses for Richmond

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Tigers are keeping the pressure on Collingwood here, and they are creating chances.

An inside 50 led to a low, scrubby kick that Rhyan Mansell grabbed in an instinctive diving mark.

He went back and kicked the set shot, but it drifted.

These are damaging misses for the Tigers. They have five marks inside 50 already, but they have to take advantage.

A miss from Josh Daicos and a poster for the Tigers

A

By Andrew McGarry

It's not a high-scoring game at the MCG, with chances going begging early.

Josh Daicos was in with a big chance, but his kick sprayed wide, and then Patrick Retschko got hold of it in forward 50 for Richmond, but his snap went astray as well. it doesn't look too windy at headquarters - let's hope people find their kicking boots.

Richmond get on the board through Jasper Alger

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Tigers are in this in the early stages.

They shift the ball down the right wing of the MCG - it's not perfect, and one of the handballs falls short, but a kick comes to hand with Noah Balta, who goes down the line to Jasper Alger in the right forward pocket.

Alger kicks it! He gives a celerbation that's half-aggressive, half The Thinker and the Tigers hit the front.

Nick Daicos kicks the opening goal for Collingwood

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Tigers are made to pay!

Richmond has had the better of play here, but Collingwood get the ball inside 50, Toby Nankervis tries (slowly) to clear the ball, but Nick Daicos wraps one arm and the umpires pay holding the ball.

Daicos converts the set shot, and the Pies are away at the MCG!

Richmond bringing pressure early, but chances missed

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Tigers have made a solid start here, putting pressure on the Pies and going inside 50.

They were moving the ball around with handball - it looked like they could have taken a shot at least twice, but in the end the kick was a chip that was chopped off near the point post.

Things get going at the MCG

A

By Andrew McGarry

It's a sunny, cool, clear late afternoon at the MCG, pretty good conditions for the Pies and Tigers as they get things underway.

The Pies are favourites for this one, but they have to win to keep themselves in the top 10.

Have the Tigers got the energy and the execution to stop them?

We're about to find out.

R2, 2020: Draw (MCG)

The Magpies have been on the right side of the ledger in recent times against Richmond, winning four and drawing one of the last six games.

They say there's nothing new under the sun, and there definitely isn't anything new about the venue for these games, which have been played solely at the MCG since the last one at Victoria Park 34 years ago.

Aside from the draw in 2020, there hasn't been a game decided by two goals or less in a decade. Can the Tigers push the Pies to the edge this afternoon?

Teams are in for Collingwood vs Richmond

A

By Andrew McGarry

There are no late changes for either side — you can check out the line-ups above.

For the Magpies, it's pretty simple. Out comes Mitch Podhajski after one solid game — and in comes Scott Pendlebury for game 436.

On the other side of the ledger, the Tigers continue to tinker with their line-up, and this time there are no injuries involved!

Tyler Sonsie and Liam Fawcett are omitted, and Jack Ross and Rhyan Mansell return.

Ross has cleared concussion protocols, while Mansell has recovered from wrist surgery and bone stress in his foot and will play for the first time since round one.

Next up is Collingwood vs Richmond

A

By Andrew McGarry

As the happy scenes continue in the Carlton rooms, it's time to move on to the second game on the schedule.

It's an MCG twilight match, with Collingwood hosting Richmond.

We're just over 10 minutes away from the bounce.

The siren sounds with a goal from Jagga Smith the cap on things, and the Carlton fans let everyone know how much they enjoyed that.

The final margin of 53 points did not flatter them.

Aside from a few periods where West Coast raised the pressure, the Blues had this one in control for most of the day.

The spread of goalkickers was excellent, and Talor Byrne in particular had a huge day. Some great goals, and even better team-first choices. Top work from the young man.

That is six wins in a row for Carlton under Josh Fraser, who keeps saying he just wants to be interim coach and nothing more.

But someone is going to snap him up if Carlton keeps going like this. This victory puts them temporarily in the top 10, so the Blues are a legitimate chance of making finals with a couple of months left before September.

Açık Sorular

  • Can Richmond maintain composure and improve finishing?
  • Will Carlton continue their winning streak under Josh Fraser?
