Best-Looking Football Kits for the 2026 World Cup

A look at the top six designs, from Uruguay's Indigenous-inspired away kit to France's classic navy home shirt.

Hızlı Bakış

  • ESPN ranks Uruguay's indigo away kit as the best of the 79 designs for the 2026 World Cup.
  • Other standout kits include Japan's collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto, Spain's literary-inspired design, Brazil's iconic yellow home shirt, Germany's classic design, and France's navy home shirt.

At every World Cup, besides the football itself, there is another inevitable debate: which team has the best-looking shirt. And for the 2026 World Cup, the battle is especially fierce.

This unofficial side contest has no official score, but everyone follows it. In 2026, with 48 teams and brands that have gone all-in on cultural storytelling, picking just a handful of them is harder than ever, but we have given it a go.

These are the six shirts that, even before the first whistle, have already secured a place of their own.

1. Uruguay 2026 away kit

Uruguay's away shirt tops ESPN's ranking of the tournament's 79 kits. The deep indigo design features collar detailing in shades of blue and orange, with historical and cultural references that evoke ancient Indigenous armour.

Nike, the company that outfits the national team, wanted to reflect the squad's desire to protect and once again lift a World Cup trophy.

It is no easy task, with 96 years of history weighing on their shoulders. Uruguay won the first World Cup in history in 1930. The contrast between the dark blue and the electric accents gives it a futuristic feel, meaning it could easily be worn as a casual shirt.

2. Japan 2026 away kit

We stay with the away kits. Adidas took a fashion-first approach with the Japanese side and collaborated with designer Yohji Yamamoto, who unveiled the shirt designs at Paris Fashion Week, turning a football collection into a high-fashion moment.

It is worth noting that this is the first time a Japanese designer has worked for a national team.

The away shirt features 12 stripes in different colours, each representing a player, with the central red stripe symbolising the heart of the team. The look recalls the jerseys worn for baseball, a hugely popular sport in Japan.

The frenzy around it was such that the shirt sold out almost immediately on launch day, something that rarely happens with an away kit, which is usually the strip that sells the least.

3. Spain 2026 away kit

The away shirt of 'La Roja', also from German manufacturer Adidas, uses an off-white tone as its base, over which a series of graphic details inspired by manuscripts and classical elements of Spanish literature are laid out.

The sleeves and collar feature gold and burgundy detailing, and on the back of the neck the word "ESPAÑA" appears with its distinctive Ñ, a tribute to the language.

The launch also marks a milestone for Adidas: the return of Adidas' iconic Trefoil logo to the World Cup for the first time in 36 years. If you are not sure what that is, it is the one that looks like a petal and was intended to represent the three inhabited continents.

FourFourTwo magazine went so far as to describe it as the best Spain away kit of all time. Praise that feels particularly welcome after some highly debated designs in recent years, such as that yellow shirt from 2024.

4. Brazil 2026 home kit

Brazil's shirt leads the popularity ranking compiled by sports retailer JD Sports from Google, eBay and TikTok data, with a score of 96.8 out of 100 and a 234% year-on-year rise in global searches.

The iconic yellow with green detailing has been virtually untouchable since the 1970s, and Nike has been smart enough not to tinker with it too much.

The collaboration with Jordan Brand, which Nike ultimately reserved for the away kit after fans rejected the initial plan to make it the home strip, adds a nod to urban culture that no European team would have dared to attempt.

The yellow shirt, in any case, is still the yellow shirt. Some things do not need reinventing to remain the best.

5. Germany 2026 home kit

Germany's home shirt is the one that has received the most votes on Football Kit Archive, with 3,430 ratings and an average of 4.29 stars.

There is also a sentimental side to it: it is the last design Adidas will deliver to the German national team before Nike takes over in 2027, bringing 70 years of partnership between the brand and 'Die Mannschaft' to a close.

The classic white with black stripes on the shoulders makes no concessions to fashion trends and in a year of such maximalism in kit design, that feels almost provocative.

6. France 2026 home kit

And we finish with the current World Cup runners-up. The French home shirt combines several shades of navy in a diagonal pattern, finished off with a turned-down white collar and bronze-textured logos.

'Les Bleus' have spent decades proving that with dark blue and a bit of care over the details there is no need to reinvent anything. US outlet ESPN ranks it among the twelve best in the tournament. It is a shirt that looks expensive and in football, even if it should not matter, that counts for a lot.

Just off the podium are Morocco, whose away kit features embroidery inspired by traditional tiles and carpets, and South Africa that used their shirt to pay tribute to the country's twelve official languages.

The opening match of the 2026 World Cup is on 11 June in Mexico City and sees Mexico go head to head against South Africa at 21:00 CET, but for some of these shirts, the show has already begun.
