BJP MP Janardan Mishra Defends India's Ethanol-Blending Policy Amid Controversy

BJP MP from Rewa, Janardan Mishra, has defended the Centre’s ethanol-blending policy amid controversy. Speaking at an event in Rewa, Mishra questioned opponents, asking if pure petrol would come from their homes, highlighting India’s 80% crude oil import dependence. He cited Brazil’s successful use of 100% ethanol in vehicles. Mishra also claimed India has the lowest inflation and highest employment globally, though this was unrelated to the ethanol policy. The event also marked the inauguration of new flights connecting Rewa with Bhopal and Kolkata.

Mishra argued that since India produces only 20% of its consumed crude oil, blending ethanol is necessary. He mentioned the global geopolitical situation forces Indian oil ships to travel an extra 18,000 km, supporting the need for the policy. Critics argue ethanol blending could harm engines, but Mishra said experts believe it causes no damage, calling the opposition unnecessary. With PTI inputs.
