Initially defended by Cambridge as a victim of a "vile campaign," the university reversed its stance as discrepancies in Arday's claims, including fundraising feats and victimhood stories, were uncovered by The Guardian. Arday denies plagiarism, citing previous investigations that found no misconduct, attributing errors to "honest and reasonable mistake." His appointment at 37, with a backstory of overcoming autism and educational hurdles, drew wide attention.
