Christian Eriksen Collapses During Denmark-Ukraine Match but Reported 'Doing Well'

Christian Eriksen collapsed during a friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine on Sunday but was conscious when taken off the field. The incident occurred in Odense, with medics quickly attending to him. Players from both teams formed a ring around Eriksen as he was treated. The match was abandoned.

Denmark’s football federation stated Eriksen was “doing well under the circumstances.” Team doctor Morten Boesen said Eriksen was “briefly unconscious” but regained consciousness quickly and walked off the pitch. Boesen noted the implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) responded as expected. Eriksen will undergo further hospital examinations to determine the cause.

Captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg praised the fast response and care shown to Eriksen, noting the team’s relief that he is doing well.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in a 2021 European Championship match and was fitted with an ICD, allowing him to resume his career.
