Her reaction came shortly after Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo on Wednesday, a result that has triggered heavy criticism back home. While much of the attention has been on Ronaldo’s performance, Katia’s Instagram activity has now shifted part of the conversation toward Fernandes and raised fresh questions about the mood around the national team.

According to reports, Katia Aveiro liked an Instagram post from a Brazilian football page that accused Bruno Fernandes of delivering strong performances for Manchester United but failing to have the same impact for Portugal. The post compared Fernandes to Brazil winger Raphinha, who has also faced criticism over his recent displays for the national team. Alongside a photo of the Manchester United captain, the post read: “This one here is the Raphinha for Portugal. Too much popcorn for the national team.” The interaction quickly drew attention because it came at a time when Portugal are facing growing scrutiny following their unexpected draw against DR Congo. Portugal arrived in the United States as one of the favorites for the tournament. Roberto Martinez’s side took an early lead through Joao Neves, whose header put them in control. However, Yoan Wissa equalized just before halftime, and neither team could find a winner after the break.

Although Fernandes has now become part of the discussion, Ronaldo remains the main target of criticism after the draw. The Al Nassr forward struggled to influence the game, recording only 25 touches and failing to register a shot on target. Many fans and pundits questioned why he stayed on the pitch until the end. With Portugal searching for a winning goal late in the match, Martinez chose to replace Vitinha with Goncalo Ramos instead of taking Ronaldo off. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former England striker Chris Sutton criticized the decision. “He (Martinez) is scared to take him off. He is not the manager. He (Ronaldo) might score the winner, but the game passed him by. “I don’t understand some of his management. Cristiano Ronaldo was on the periphery and Martinez has to be brave enough to be the manager.” Martinez rejected those claims after the match. “We were finding it difficult because they were playing in a back six. “And in a situation like that, you can use his qualities. It makes no sense to get a player like Cristiano out of the game where you need goals. “The straight line is not the quickest way. The way he attracts defenders and uses space is valuable. When you need goals, you need a player like Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch.”
