Einride to Deploy 75 Electric Trucks for Amazon's US Freight Network

Swedish EV trucking company Einride is deploying 75 manually operated electric heavy-duty trucks within Amazon's Relay freight network. This move represents an expansion of the freight EV startup's presence in the U.S., ahead of a planned public offering, and aligns with Amazon's strategy to broaden its no-emissions electrification technology across its logistics network, extending beyond last-mile delivery.

The Einride trucks will support Amazon's middle-mile network through Amazon Relay, the company's app for truck drivers that facilitates booking and hauling Amazon loads, which was launched in 2017. Middle-mile operations involve moving orders between Amazon's fulfillment centers, sort centers, air facilities, and last-mile delivery stations.

These Einride EVs are projected to cover up to three million electric transport miles annually, operating with zero tailpipe emissions. Einride will also provide support for charging infrastructure at five locations. Additionally, Einride's proprietary optimization software, Saga AI, will be utilized to manage the electric vehicle execution of select Amazon loads, including charging planning.

Einride CEO Roozbeh Charli stated on LinkedIn that "Working with Amazon is yet another powerful validation of Einride's technology and strategic vision." He added, "By deploying our intelligent platform within one of the world's most sophisticated logistics networks, we are accelerating growth, while continuing to build industry-leading operational expertise."

Einride has been recognized on the CNBC Disruptor 50 list for three consecutive years, ranking No. 24 in 2025.

Amazon has been steadily expanding its freight business for years, aiming to establish an end-to-end logistics network while simultaneously electrifying it.

As of mid-2025, Amazon reported having over 70,000 owned-trailers in its fleet.

In 2019, Amazon announced a deal with Rivian, which included an investment in the EV startup, with the goal of adding a total of 100,000 electric delivery vehicles by 2030. In early 2025, Amazon Europe announced its largest-ever order of EV big rigs from Mercedes, comprising 200 trucks. In 2024, Amazon deployed its then-largest heavy-duty EV fleet for the U.S. freight market connected to Southern California ports, consisting of 50 trucks from Volvo.

An Amazon spokesperson commented on the Einride deal, stating, "This rollout is an important step forward in addressing one of the toughest challenges we face in decarbonizing our transportation network — electrifying heavy-duty trucking. We're excited to continue to collaborate with Einride and learn from these operations as the trucks hit the road."

While this Amazon deal does not involve autonomous trucking, 2026 is anticipated to be a significant year for Einride and its competitors in autonomous operations in the U.S., including Waabi, Aurora Innovation, and Kodiak AI.

Einride recently received approval from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to operate its autonomous vehicles on public roads in Texas, marking its fifth U.S. state. This plan for driverless trucks in Austin, Texas, follows similar approvals in Arizona, Colorado, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Einride currently operates the first daily commercial autonomous route for GE Appliances in Selmer, Tennessee, where GE manufactures refrigerators. However, Charli indicated that Texas is expected to become "a core hub for our American autonomous freight operations."

Einride has also announced its intention to go public via a SPAC with Legato Merger Corp. III during the first half of this year, a deal projected to raise over $300 million. Earlier this month, Amazon board member and former NSA Director General (Ret.) Keith B. Alexander joined Einride's board of directors, as the company also explores opportunities in the defense sector.
