Fatal Shooting at Idaho In-N-Out Burger Restaurant

Multiple people were killed and others were injured after a gunman opened fire at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in a city in the northwestern US state of Idaho.

The shooting unfolded near a busy shopping area in Twin Falls where hundreds of people were present, police chief Matthew Hicks said in a news conference.

The suspected shooter was among the dead, Hicks said. Police were still trying to determine the shooter's identity and motive.

Local media broadcast video footage from the scene showing what appeared to be a young man carrying a long gun outside the restaurant that had only been open for a week at the Twin Falls location.

Police to confirm exact number of fatalities

The shooting at the burger chain "resulted in fatalities" but authorities were still working to determine the number of victims, Hicks said.

"We are working to try to ascertain his identity and the motivations behind [the shooting] and we'll be able to figure that out in the next coming days," he said, adding that it was a "very chaotic scene."

Local public radio station KTVB reported that three people were killed and two were injured. A city spokesperson said the number of victims is expected to be higher.

Multiple people hospitalized after shooting at Idaho In-N-Out

Police said multiple people were taken to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center.

Hospital spokesperson Taylor Marschner said in a statement that it was "working closely with law enforcement and emergency responders as they manage the situation."

Twin Falls, a city of about 56,000 people, is about 130 miles (205 kilometers) southeast of Boise and about 75 miles (120 kilometers) north of the Nevada border.
