원 장관은 이어 전날 피해자 이름과 얼굴을 공개한 부모를 언급하며 "그 처절한 외침 앞에 우리 사회는 반드시 응답해야 한다. 청소년과 여성 등 사회적 약자를 향한 흉악한 범죄에는 결코 그 어떤 관용도 용서도 있을 수 없다"고 강조했다.
그러면서 "더는 우리의 소중한 아이와 여성이 일상의 공포에 시달리지 않도록 피해자 보호·지원체계를 점검하고 예방을 강화하겠다"며 "사각지대 없는 안전망을 구축해 안전한 일상을 누릴 수 있을 때까지 책임과 노력을 다하겠다"고 덧붙였다.
