이달부터 오는 8월까지 3개월간 환경오염물질 배출사업장과 악성 폐수 배출업체, 폐수 다량 배출사업장, 하천·배수로 인접 사업장, 폐기물 취급업소, 민원 다발 지역 등을 중심으로 오염물질 유출 여부와 폐수 무단 방류 등을 집중적으로 점검한다.

특히 주요 하천과 환경오염 취약지역을 대상으로 무허가 배출시설이 있는지, 오염 방지시설이 제대로 설치됐는지 등을 확인할 계획이다.

집중호우로 오염 예방시설이 파손되거나 오염 사고가 발생할 우려가 있는 사업장에는 시설을 사전에 복구하도록 권고할 방침이다.

김포시 관계자는 "집중호우 시기에는 환경오염물질이 하천으로 유입될 우려가 높다"며 "주변에서 환경오염 행위가 의심되면 관계기관에 신고해달라"고 말했다.
