The contracts mark the first time a South Korean company has secured projects from the Office of Naval Research, which oversees science and technology programs for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Under the agreements, HD Hyundai will carry out projects aimed at improving naval vessel performance using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. One project focuses on real-time survivability prediction for naval ships operating under volatile maritime conditions, the company said.
