寺には焔摩（えんま）天や聖徳太子、風神などの像がある。寺側は取材に対し、県側から「仏像を移転させる必要があり、破損した場合に備えて3次元（3D）データを取らせてほしい」などと求められ、了承したとしている。模型の製作は事前に知らされていなかったという。
県によると、模型は実物の6分の1の大きさで、高さが約40センチと約50センチ。県が職員に聞き取ったが、約50センチの「風神像」の所在が分からなくなっている。24年3月の時点で、もう1体の「焔摩天像」とともに県西部建設事務所呉支所の書庫で保管されていたことは確認されているという。
ただ、焔摩天像を現在どこに保管しているかについて、呉支所は取材に対して「言えない」としている。
呉支所では過去、国の補助金を受けるために地権者との協議録を偽造していた。その後の調査で、呉支所を含む県の建設事務所で64件の文書偽造が見つかり、国から補助金約5千万円を不正に受け取っていたことがわかっている。
