Hyundai Motor Group is collaborating with the South Korean government to establish a national certification system for Plug and Charge (PnC) technology, an international standard for automated EV charging and payment.
SEOUL, July 7 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Group said Tuesday it will collaborate with the government to establish a national certification for the Plug and Charge (PnC) technology to promote the wider adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
The automaker said it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Environment Corp. on Monday to establish a national certification system for EV PnC services.
PnC is an international standard technology that automatically completes user authentication, charging and payment simply by plugging in a charging cable.
Unlike conventional EV charging services, which require a membership card or credit card for authentication, PnC uses encrypted authentication between the vehicle and the charging station for a more secure and convenient charging.
Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will transfer its PnC certification technology and certification authority to the government, helping expand the technology to a wider network of EV charging stations across South Korea.
