India and Egypt, both BRICS members, have a history of cooperation on counter-terrorism. This meeting aimed to further strengthen their strategic partnership by enhancing collaboration in key areas.
New Delhi: India and Egypt have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in training and capacity building, cyber security, judicial cooperation, exchange of best practices and intelligence-sharing to combat cross-border terrorism.
The two countries, both Brics members, also expressed concern over the increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles, drones and artificial intelligence for terrorist activities during the fifth meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism in New Delhi this week, an official said.
Egypt reaffirmed its solidarity with India against all forms of terrorism aimed at undermining the country's security and stability, the official added.
The meeting was co-chaired by senior officials from India's ministry of external affairs (MEA) and Egypt's ministry of foreign affairs, along with representatives of security agencies from both countries.
"India and Egypt underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation in countering terrorism, reflecting the spirit of India-Egypt Strategic Partnership," MEA said in a statement after the meeting. "They unequivocally and strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism, reaffirmed the principle of zero tolerance towards terrorism and reiterated that terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group."
The two sides strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, and the terror incident near Red Fort in New Delhi on November 10, 2025, and said "all those involved in terrorist activities and their support must be held accountable and brought to justice".
India and Egypt have long cooperated on counter-terrorism, with Cairo pursuing an aggressive strategy against terrorism and extremism.
Both sides said tackling terrorism required sustained and coordinated action. They renewed their commitment to strengthen multilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism at the United Nations, Brics, the Financial Action Task Force and the Global Counter Terrorism Forum, among other platforms, the official said.
The two countries also exchanged views on improving the effectiveness of the Global Counter Terrorism Forum and reiterated support for the early adoption of the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.
