Viral social media claims circulated regarding the burial of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at a shrine in Qom.
Iran on Wednesday has rejected viral social media claims that the body of the country's martyred Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been buried at the shrine of Hazrat Masumeh in Qom, calling the reports "entirely false and without foundation."
The clarification was issued by Iman Attarzade, spokesperson for the committee overseeing the farewell and funeral ceremonies, who urged Iranians not to believe unverified information circulating online.
In a series of posts on X, translated from Persian, Attarzade appealed to the public to rely only on official announcements regarding the funeral arrangements.
"We ask our dear Iranian people not to pay attention to rumours; we will provide accurate announcements from the event organising committee," he said, adding that the farewell and funeral ceremonies for the martyred leader would begin on Sunday, July 3.
'Neither buried nor interred'
Attarzade also denied speculation that the remains had already been laid to rest at the Hazrat Masumeh Shrine in Qom.
"The rumours circulating in cyberspace claiming that the body of the martyred Leader of the Revolution has been laid to rest in the shrine of Hazrat Masumeh are entirely false and without foundation," he said.
He further revealed that the remains of the martyred leader and members of his family have been kept under strict protection while observing all religious and legal protocols.
"For the first time, we announce that the sacred remains of our martyred Imam and the members of his martyred family... have neither been buried nor interred, nor entrusted or deposited as a pledge," Attarzade said.
The statement comes amid widespread speculation on social media over the location of the leader's remains following reports of his death.
