The KBO has seen consistent growth in attendance over recent years, with 2025 marking a record high in total attendance.
By Yoo Jee-ho SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean baseball league cleared yet another attendance milestone in record-breaking fashion Tuesday, as it topped 9 million fans in the fewest games in its history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said the total attendance for the current season reached 9,049,365 fans after five games nationwide Tuesday. It exceeded the 9 million mark in 505 games, beating the previous record of 528 games from the 2025 season.
The regular season resumed Tuesday after most of the games were canceled last week due to excessive heat. The five games combined to draw 67,134 fans, including 22,152 that watched the Doosan Bears beat the Hanwha Eagles 6-3 at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul.
In 2025, the KBO set a single-season record with just over 12.3 million fans, and it remains on pace to surpass that number this year. According to the KBO, teams are averaging 17,920 fans per game so far, up from 16,904 fans from the same point a year ago.
The league has reached every million mark in record-breaking pace so far this year. There have been 260 sellouts so far in 2026, and the previous record of 331, set in 2025, is well within reach with over a month left in the regular season.
The league said eight of the 10 teams have enjoyed a year-on-year increase in their average home attendance in 2026. Only the Eagles and the Lotte Giants have suffered a dip in their attendance, though the decrease has been minuscule for the Eagles -- going from 16,876 last year to 16,731 this year.
Playing out of the 17,000-seat Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark, the Eagles have played at 98.4 percent capacity, the second-highest rate in the KBO behind only the Samsung Lions (99.3 percent). The Eagles lead the KBO with 41 sellouts, one more than the Lions.
