경북 경주경찰서는 아파트 소화전에 있는 소방노즐을 상습으로 훔친 혐의(절도)로 40대 A씨를 검거했다고 23일 밝혔다.

A씨는 지난해 8월부터 이달까지 경주, 포항, 대구, 울산 등지 아파트에 있는 소화전의 황동 재질 소방노즐 1만1천300여개(6억8천만원 상당)를 훔쳐 고물상에 판 혐의를 받고 있다.

A씨가 훔친 소방노즐 양은 모두 2만2천140㎏으로 경찰은 최근 구릿값이 올라 소방노즐이 절도 범죄의 표적이 된 것으로 보고 있다.

경찰 관계자는 "소방노즐 등 소화 시설은 주택 화재가 발생할 경우 주민 생명 보호와 안전을 위한 필수 장비"라며 "유사 범죄 피해가 있거나 소화전 주변에서 수상하게 행동하는 사람이 있으면 적극 112에 신고해달라"고 말했다.
