Police were called after reports a man had fired a shotgun at a vehicle during a disturbance involving people who were known to each other on Monday afternoon.
"Both parties left the scene and significant police resources were used in the response, including specialist units and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter," police said in a statement.
Information provided by the public led to the man's arrest near Blackmans Bay Beach later that afternoon, police said.
Police will allege the man was in possession of a firearm when arrested, with two other firearms located nearby in a vehicle he is charged with stealing.
No one was injured during the incident or arrest and police thanked members of the community "for their support and assistance".
