The Salisbury man, 27, has been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and rape.
Police will allege that the man and the occupant were not known to each other.
"Police wish to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident, and no outstanding suspects are sought," police said in a statement.
Detectives are seeking the location of a white 2000 Mazda Bravo utility, registration S581CMW, which was allegedly used by the man.
They are also urging anyone who saw or interacted with the man in the last 24 hours to come forward.
He is described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, 175 centimetres tall, with short, black hair, unshaven and wearing a black shirt and sandy coloured pants.
The man will be refused police bail and is expected to appear in court at the earliest opportunity.
