A 30-year-old man, Nagendra, died in a car fire on a Karnataka highway, suspected of self-harm after allegedly attacking a woman.

The victim, identified as Nagendra, is suspected to have used explosives to set the vehicle on fire near Kallambella in Sira taluk, Tumakuru district, about 70 km from Bengaluru, on Saturday, police said.

Before the incident, Nagendra allegedly struck a woman, identified as Ramya, on the head with a knife while they were inside the car. She managed to escape despite her injuries, and the driver also jumped out in an attempt to rescue her. Moments later, an explosion occurred, engulfing the car in flames.

Nagendra had booked a cab from Siddapura near Jayanagar in Bengaluru, allegedly forcing a woman into the vehicle during the journey. The incident occurred as the car approached Kallambella police station. Police found the driver and Ramya outside the burning vehicle and learnt of the explosion and body inside after enquiry.
