김 장관은 "중동전쟁이 지속되면서 유가 상승과 동시에 제조업 부문 등 고용 현장의 어려움이 두드러지고 있는 것으로 보인다"며 "우선 지역별 고용 상황을 밀착 점검하도록 긴급히 지시했다"고 밝혔다.
김 장관은 "정부는 중동전쟁 발발 직후부터 매주 비상 고용노동 상황 점검회의를 개최했다"며 "항공, 플라스틱, 섬유 등 취약 업종의 고용유지지원금 지원요건을 완화하고 '버팀이음' 예산을 통해 지역의 고용안정도 지원하고 있다"고 설명했다.
이어 "앞으로 업종별, 지역별 고용 상황 모니터링을 세밀하게 해 '고용위기 선제 대응 지역'과 '특별 고용지원 업종' 지정도 적극적으로 검토하겠다"고 말했다.
그러면서 "정부는 일자리 상황이 나아지도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 강조했다.
이날 국가데이터처가 발표한 5월 고용동향에 따르면 지난달 15세 이상 취업자는 2천912만명으로 작년 동월 대비 4만명 감소했다.
취업자 수가 감소한 건 지난 2024년 12월(-5만2천명) 이후 17개월 만이다.
