A woman charged over the death of a Canberra tourism leader near Queanbeyan almost two years ago has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death.

Jackie McKeown was killed when she was struck by a ute while walking on Bicentennial Drive in Jerrabomberra shortly after 8am on November 17, 2024.

Despite efforts by paramedics to revive her, the 48-year-old mother of two died at the scene.

Theresa Anne McDonald, 55, appeared in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday, where she pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death and an alternative charge of negligent driving occasioning death.

The case will now go to trial in the New South Wales District Court.

Ms McKeown was the Director of Visitor Services at the ACT government's tourism agency, VisitCanberra, at the time of her death.

She had led the service for three years, and the centre was named the country's best at the 2022-23 Australian Tourism Awards.

Paying tribute at the time, staff at VisitCanberra, said she was a "cherished and respected member of Canberra's tourism family" and left "such a positive legacy".
