Mourinho's potential Real Madrid return hinges on Perez's re-election

The prospect of Jose Mourinho making a sensational return to Real Madrid has generated excitement among fans, but the Portuguese coach’s comeback may depend on more than just the club’s wishes.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has publicly stated that Mourinho is his preferred choice to take charge at the Santiago Bernabeu if he secures another term as club president. However, with presidential elections still ahead, any plans involving the veteran manager remain tied to the outcome of that vote.

Perez made the revelation while outlining his vision for the club following a disappointing campaign that ended without silverware. Alongside discussing potential squad reinforcements, he named Mourinho as one of his priority appointments should he remain in charge.

The 79-year-old also confirmed that Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is part of his plans for the future. The France international is expected to become available after his current deal expires, and Perez believes he could strengthen Madrid's backline.

"We are working on all these signings. I can assure you that if I remain president of Real Madrid, one of the world's top defenders, Konate, will be playing for Real Madrid from next season onwards. And he would not be the only top defender to join us if I stay at the helm of Real Madrid," he said.

Mourinho's return hinges on election outcome

While Perez’s endorsement is significant, Mourinho’s appointment is not guaranteed unless the long-serving president retains his position. The former Real Madrid boss remains one of the most successful and recognisable managers in world football, having guided the club to a memorable La Liga title during his previous spell between 2010 and 2013.

Explaining his choice, Perez said: "Mourinho is one of the world's great coaches and he was very important for Real Madrid during his time with us. He was the coach of that famous record-breaking league season. He brought the team to very high levels of competitiveness and that was very important for everything that was achieved afterwards. Mourinho and Konate are my first signings."

Perez also dismissed speculation surrounding Vinicius Junior's future, insisting: "Vini is one of the best players in the world, and he is delighted to be a Madrid player. He was decisive in winning the last two European Cups, and he has one year left on his contract. There is still time, but I tell you Vinicius wants to stay at Madrid and I want him to stay."
