Pakistani Senator Suggests Yalta for Putin-Xi-Trump Peace Summit

MOSCOW, May 23. /TASS/. The Crimean city of Yalta, which hosted a historic conference in 1945, could now become a venue for a meeting of the world’s top leaders - President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Xi Jinping of China and President Donald Trump of the United States, Pakistani senator Aimal Wali Khan, who heads the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Russia, told TASS.

"At this moment, the world needs peace, and if we look at history, Yalta is the city of peace. Yalta is the place where peace spread from," he noted.

According to Khan, Trump, Xi Jinping and Putin could meet in Yalta. "These three must sit across the table, as has happened in history, and they must come up with a solution for peace," he said.

The Pakistani senator pointed out that Yalta had posted negotiations in the past. "Why try anything new? Try the same thing, the same table, the same chairs, the same historical place - just the people are different as the powers have changed," he said. "If these three people sit across the table with their delegations, they can reach a solution for peace, and this is what the world needs right now, Khan concluded.

The Yalta Conference of the leaders of the Allied powers of the anti-Hitler coalition (the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom) was held in Crimea on February 4-11, 1945. The decisions made at this meeting laid down the foundations of the post-war world order and formalized the division of spheres of influence between Western states and the Soviet Union. The Soviet delegation was led by Joseph Stalin, chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars, the US delegation was headed by President Franklin Roosevelt, and the British delegation by Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
