In a statement, South Australia police said investigators from the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team arrested a 26-year-old man from Adelaide's northern suburbs yesterday.
They said a review of electronic devices had "identified the occupant had been producing AI-generated child exploitation material at that address".
Other electronic devices were taken by police for analysis.
Officer in Charge of the Public Protection Branch, Detective Superintendent Damien Epps said the "production, possession and distribution of AI-generated child abuse material is a heinous offence".
"Our specialist Detectives, with the assistance of SAPOL's Digital Evidence Section, have the tools and expertise to peruse, investigate and prosecute anyone attempting to produce AI Generated child exploitation material within South Australia," he said.
The man was granted bail and to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.
