According to Russian officials, Ukraine launched a drone attack on a college in Luhansk Oblast at night. Photos and videos released by Russian authorities show rescue workers carrying a man on a stretcher from the rubble, the building severely damaged, one section appearing to have partially collapsed, and fires still burning.
Russia unilaterally declared sovereignty over four Ukrainian regions, including Luhansk, in 2022. Kyiv calls Russia's move an illegal land grab and is currently working to repel Russian forces to reclaim Luhansk.
In mid-May, Ukraine's capital Kyiv was attacked by Russian drones and missiles. A missile hit an apartment building in Kyiv, killing 24 people. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy later vowed retaliation and subsequently launched nighttime drone attacks on multiple locations in Russia with nearly 600 drones.
