Russian Attacks on Kyiv Kill 10, Ukraine Lacks Interceptors

Russian attacks on Ukraine's capital have killed at least 10 people and injured more than two dozen others, local officials say, with strikes damaging homes and causing fires across the city.

Ukraine's state emergency service said the latest Russian attack overnight into Saturday struck five regions of Kyiv, killing nine people and wounding 28 others, including four children.

Russia's defence ministry said on Saturday it had launched a "massive strike" against "Ukrainian military-industrial complex facilities and logistics centres in Kyiv".

In Kyiv's Darnytsky district, the attacks damaged multiple buildings and vehicles, with authorities reporting seven people killed and 14 wounded in the area.

Two people were killed and eight others were wounded in Solomiansky district, where strikes damaged a five-storey residential building.

One more person was killed in the Kyiv region where the attacks damaged several warehouses, regional officials said.

Ukraine and Russia have ramped up attacks on each other in recent months.

"It's getting worse by the day," 64-year-old Liudmyla Nakonechna told the Associated Press from a basement shelter where she was taking cover as an air alarm sounded for another wave.

" Whereas before there was an attack once every two weeks, or maybe once a week, now it happens practically every day. It is incredibly hard to bear this psychologically. "

As Moscow has increased its long-range strikes on Ukrainian towns and cities, Kiev has pressed its allies for air defence support.

Ukraine downed only one of 27 Russian ballistic missiles during the attack as the country lacks interceptors for the US Patriot systems, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Mr Zelenskyy said that Russia launched a total of 35 missiles, including 27 ballistic missiles and 185 attack drones.

The capital Kyiv was the primary target of the attack, he said.

Earlier this week, Mr Zelenskyy met with US President Donald Trump for talks, and said following the meeting that Mr Trump had agreed to license the production of Patriot missiles to Ukraine.

But Mr Trump said on Friday that Washington would have to be "very careful" about giving Ukraine a licence to produce the missiles.

Russia's ministry of defence on Saturday said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 274 Ukrainian drones overnight.
