Scoot passenger jailed and caned for molesting sleeping teenager
A passenger on a Scoot airline flight has been sentenced to imprisonment and corporal punishment for molesting a sleeping 17-year-old fellow passenger. This was reported by the portal inquirer.net.
It is specified that the incident on board the aircraft, flying from the Japanese island of Okinawa to Singapore, occurred on April 15, but the court's decision only became known on June 3. 20-year-old Ariel Ludfian Muarifien will be sent to prison for 15 months. In addition, he will be subjected to three strokes of the cane. The young man pleaded guilty.
According to the publication, Muarifien, who worked as a construction worker in Japan, was returning to Indonesia via Singapore by plane. A minor girl was sitting next to him in the cabin. When she fell asleep, the offender began to touch her thighs, stomach, and chest. The fellow passenger tried to move away from Muarifien, but this did not stop him.
"The victim stated that she felt extremely frightened, offended, and helpless," said Deputy Public Prosecutor Gabriel Lee in court.
Later, the girl got up from her seat and told a flight attendant about what happened, who moved her to another seat. The airline filed a report with the police, and the suspect was arrested the same day.
