Tesla Crashes Through Fence, Submerges in Connecticut Pool; Lifeguard Rescues Driver

A lifeguard rescued a driver from a swimming pool in Connecticut after a Tesla crashed through a fence and became submerged in the water.

The incident occurred at a local public pool in New Canaan when a driver attempting to park accidentally accelerated, traveling between a row of trees and through a perimeter fence before landing in the water, News 12 reported.

Lifeguard Mike D’Urso told the outlet he had been setting up food court umbrellas with coworkers when they heard a loud crash.

“We turned around, and there’s just a Tesla sitting in the middle of our pool,” D’Urso said.

D’Urso, who was among the first to respond, said that the driver had been found conscious, but rescuers were concerned about the water inside the vehicle.

“I was just in shock,” D’Urso said. “I stayed pretty calm because the guy was breathing, he was conscious. I wasn’t really worried about that, but my main concern was that the water level would rise above his head, so we had to get him out before that happened.”

New Canaan police officers entered the pool to assist D'Urso. Responders broke a vehicle window and opened the door to safely remove the driver using a backboard.

The pool was closed to the public at the time of the crash. The driver did not sustain injuries but was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

John Howe, the New Canaan Parks and Recreation director, said that the facility would remain closed while the town drained the pool, cleaned the area and ensured it was safe for the public to return.

“Actually, a car in the pool definitely takes the cake,” Howe said. “I’ve never seen anything like this here in the town.”
