特斯拉（Tesla）旗下旗艦車款 Model S 與 Model X，最後一輛新車已於 5 月中旬在美國加州工廠下線，象徵這兩款分別擁有 14 年與 11 年產品生命週期的車系正式告別市場。外界普遍認為，銷量持續下滑是停產主因，但事實似乎不是如此，特斯拉高層近日首度鬆口，透露背後其實另有考量。
特斯拉工程副總裁 Lars Moravy 接受外媒採訪，他坦承公司早在一年半前，就已決定讓 Model S 與 Model X 退役，關鍵原因並非市場需求不足，而是兩款車所使用的平台架構已經過於老舊，難以因應日益嚴格的全球車輛安全法規。
其中 Model S 平台最早可追溯至 2008 年開發，並於 2012 年正式上市。儘管特斯拉多年來持續針對車輛進行軟硬體升級，但核心車體結構並未進行大幅度改造。隨著歐洲新車安全評鑑協會（Euro NCAP）與美國公路安全保險協會（Insurance Institute for Highway Safety）等機構持續提高碰撞測試標準，老舊平台要維持最高安全評價的難度與成本也隨之增加。
Moravy 坦言，若要讓 Model S 與 Model X 繼續成為市場上最安全的車款之一，勢必得投入大量資源重新開發車體架構，但在評估未來產品布局後，特斯拉選擇將資源轉向更具發展潛力的新事業。
除了安全架構問題外，Model S 與 Model X 也被認為不利於未來自動駕駛技術的全面導入。由於兩車均屬特斯拉早期產品，在電子架構與平台設計上較難滿足未來完全自駕技術需求。
更重要的是，特斯拉近年積極投入人形機器人計畫，將 Optimus 視為下一個成長引擎。為了擴大 Optimus 量產規模，特斯拉也需要騰出更多工廠產能，因此最終決定讓 Model S 與 Model X 功成身退，將資源集中在新世代產品與人工智慧領域。
不過，這並不代表兩款旗艦車型將永遠消失。Moravy 也替未來留下伏筆，表示目前並非重新投入 Model S 與 Model X 的最佳時機，但未來是否以全新平台或全新形式回歸市場，「一切都有可能」，為這兩款經典車系保留復活空間。
