UFC's 'Freedom 250' Event on White House South Lawn Results in $30 Million Loss Despite Record Viewership

The UFC lost about $30 million staging its "Freedom 250" event on the White House South Lawn, despite the historic show becoming one of the most-watched mixed martial arts events ever, parent company TKO Group Holdings revealed. The June event, held to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, featured a specially built 4,300-seat arena at the White House. The event was closed to the public, with invitations limited to political allies, sponsors and members of the military. President Donald Trump, a longtime UFC supporter, attended alongside Vice President JD Vance. The lack of ticket sales proved costly. TKO said the UFC spent about $60 million producing the event but was unable to recover those costs through sponsorships alone, resulting in losses of roughly $30 million. The company said the event was solely responsible for a decline in its second-quarter profit margins. "Absent Freedom 250, margins would have increased year-over-year," TKO said in its earnings report. Despite the financial hit, TKO reported higher overall revenue for the second quarter. Executive Chair and CEO Ari Emanuel said the company continued to perform well despite broader economic challenges. "Despite a challenging global environment, TKO delivered solid results in Q2, with strong momentum heading into the back half of the year," Emanuel said. The event was still a major ratings success. TKO said "Freedom 250" drew 8.2 million viewers in the United States and about 34 million worldwide, making it one of the most-watched UFC events in history. The headline fight saw American Justin Gaethje pull off a shock upset to defeat Spain's Ilia Topuria and capture the UFC lightweight championship.
