UK post-Brexit negotiator signals closer ties under Andy Burnham

The government's chief post-Brexit negotiator tells the Guardian that the UK will "move faster" toward closer ties with Europe under Andy Burnham. Hamish Falconer says there's "room to be ambitious" within Labour's red lines on Europe, which exclude reopening discussions on the single market and customs union.

Chinese spy cameras have been found on Royal Navy drones used by elite special forces, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph. One tells the paper US democratic "guardrails" have been taken down and adds: "I don't think we're close to the worst of where we're going to". A White House official is quoted as saying Donald Trump puts "American citizens first".

The Daily Mail, citing figures compiled by the Conservative Party, says 89,000 more crimes will be committed across Britain as a result of the government's prisoner early release scheme. "Sex offenders, robbers and arsonists will cause mayhem" reads its front page. A Ministry of Justice spokesperson dismisses the data as highly speculative and inaccurate.
