Tedros stated on Facebook on the 25th that as the DR Congo strengthens its Ebola epidemic monitoring efforts, over 900 suspected cases have been discovered to date, with 101 confirmed cases.
Furthermore, Tedros pointed out that the Ituri province in the DR Congo, the site of the outbreak, has nearly 5 million people living daily amidst severe armed conflict, with one in four people requiring humanitarian assistance.
"Violence forces people to flee their homes, including health and humanitarian workers. This is severely hindering Ebola contact tracing, as well as the early identification of infected cases and the provision of rescue care," Tedros said.
The Ministry of Health of the DR Congo stated on the evening of the 24th that 204 deaths have been reported across three provinces in the country. The World Health Organization had previously announced that the current Ebola epidemic constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
