Iran Captures Two Foreign Ships Near Strait of Hormuz, 22 Indian Seafarers Affected
Iran has captured two foreign container ships and fired on a third near the Strait of Hormuz in an escalation of maritime tensions. Two of the three vessels carried 22 Indian seafarers in total, with one Indian crew member on the captured ship Epaminondas and 21 on the vessel Euphoria that was fired upon. All Indian seafarers are safe, according to India's Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. The action comes as retaliation for the US seizure of an Iranian commercial vessel in the Sea of Oman, with Iran accusing Washington of "armed piracy."
