Qatar Pushes Forward With North Field LNG Expansion Despite Regional Disruptions

Qatar is proceeding with the North Field West expansion project, awarding Baker Hughes a major contract for equipment including six gas turbines and 12 compressors for two LNG mega trains. The $8.2 billion project will increase Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 to 142 million tonnes annually, despite disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz affecting recent exports. The contract also includes carbon capture technology capable of handling 4.1 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
