Pediatrician Warns About Coffee-Milk Spots in Children

Pediatrician Huang Shao-chi warns that while coffee-milk spots (café-au-lait macules) are common and usually benign, an excessive number or rapidly growing spots could indicate underlying genetic conditions like Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). He advises parents to seek medical attention if they notice more than six spots larger than 5mm before puberty or 15mm after, especially if accompanied by freckling in the armpits or groin.
