Hacktivists claiming affiliation with an Iraqi group have taken responsibility for a sustained DDoS attack on Canonical's web infrastructure, affecting Ubuntu users' ability to update and install the Linux distribution. The attack began Thursday and has been ongoing for approximately 20 hours, impacting Ubuntu's security API and multiple Canonical websites. The group allegedly uses Beamed, a DDoS-for-hire service claiming attacks up to 3.5 Tbps.

The DDoS attack against Mastodon's flagship server comes less than a week after Bluesky was targeted with junk web traffic.
