USS Gerald R. Ford Returns After Record 295-Day Deployment Involving Iran War and Maduro Capture
The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier, is returning to Virginia in mid-May after a record 295-day deployment—the longest post-Vietnam War deployment for a US aircraft carrier. The carrier participated in the war against Iran and the operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Three US carriers were deployed to the Middle East simultaneously for the first time since 2003 during a tenuous ceasefire in the Iran war.
