China Says US $12Bln Pacific Deterrence Initiative Will 'Surely Fail'

China's Embassy in Washington has criticized US plans to allocate $11.7 billion through the Pentagon in fiscal year 2027 for the Pacific Deterrence Initiative, saying such attempts to deter China will 'surely fail' and are not in the interests of either country. Spokesperson Liu Pengyu emphasized that the Taiwan question is China's core interest and the first red line in China-US relations, calling on the US to abide by the one-China principle and stop arming Taiwan.
