电影《给阿嬷的情书》唤起了观众对跨越山海的共同历史记忆的关注。中国与新加坡之间的文化联系，根植于数百年的移民史与血缘纽带。下南洋的华人将语言、信仰与家族观念带入新加坡，也使这份文化亲缘性贯穿于新加坡电影的发展历程，催生出两国电影人之间持久的对话与共振。

《爸妈不在家》由陈哲艺执导，是新加坡首部斩获戛纳奖项的电影。电影把背景置于1997年亚洲金融危机之下，讲述本地中产家庭与前来帮佣的菲律宾女佣之间，从隔阂、依赖到产生复杂情感羁绊的故事，该片曾获戛纳电影节金摄影机奖。
