HT: Gold Coast 12.3 (75) lead North Melbourne 6.1 (37)

D

By Dean Bilton

A really powerful second quarter from Gold Coast, and one which has again exposed the defensive frailties within this North Melbourne team.

The Suns got on top in the midfield and managed to put the Roos defenders under far too much pressure. They couldn't handle the talls or the smalls in the end, and have shipped 12 goals in a half of football as a result.

Long way back for North. Would take something special to turn this around from here.

Daniel Rioli is coming from the ground injured

D

By Dean Bilton

Rioli has copped a whack in the ribs while having a flying shot on goal and looks seriously sore as a result. Spargo is the one who got him, but it wasn't a particularly nasty hit or anything. Just got him in the wrong spot.

It's a very slow walk off the field for one of the Suns' prime movers. Not what Gold Coast fans want to be seeing.

Jacob Konstanty bounces one home for North

D

By Dean Bilton

And not a moment too soon.

The goal was set up by a powerful Darling contested mark in the middle of the ground. Xerri wasn't paid the mark inside 50, but he managed to dish off to Konstanty whose snap snuck home. They certainly needed that one.

Ned Moyle kicks another for the Suns! It's a rampage!

D

By Dean Bilton

Gee that's a strong mark from Moyle, who is having a stint in the forward line with Witts in the ruck. And, as you would expect, his set shot is true.,

It's out to 43 points now with six minutes still to play in the second quarter. North's defence looking feeble for the second week in a row.

Bailey Humphrey keeps the Suns rolling

D

By Dean Bilton

Caleb Daniel is punished for a little bit of tunnel ball inside defensive 50, pinged for a throw which proves to be costly.

Humphrey converts the set shot, keeping Gold Coast's perfect record from that source in check. Eight straight from set shots so far. Suns really punishing North right now.

Jed Walter with a huge grab! And another goal!

D

By Dean Bilton

Big Jed! He's arriving alright! That is a powerful contested mark on the goal line in the middle of a massive pack, and now he's got three to his name already.

Halfway through the second quarter the Suns already have 10 goals on the board. North's defence is being exposed again.

Matt Rowell wobbles through a smart goal!

D

By Dean Bilton

The Suns just keep on going and going and going. Petracca and Miller and Noble and Rowell forcing their way through tackles until the Brownlow Medallist finally managed a snap on goal.

North fans aren't happy because Rowell was clearly holding the ball at the beginning of that play without being called. Curious umpiring across the board so far today.

Nick Larkey is on the board for the Roos

D

By Dean Bilton

Feels like Larkey needed that one. It was a clever kick in from Darling, just wedging the ball to a dangerous area. Larkey had worked a mismatch and took a strong mark over Anderson.

For a man out of form, that could be an important goal. North need Larkey back to his best.

John Noble adds another for the Suns

D

By Dean Bilton

Eight straight! The Suns can't miss under the roof this afternoon.

A quick one for the Gold Coasts to start the second term. Noble was taken high by Comben and drilled his set shot.

QT: Gold Coast 7.0 (42) lead North Melbourne 4.1 (25)

D

By Dean Bilton

Jed Walter kicks one after the siren from a late free kick, which really stings the Roos after a bright finish.

It has felt like a closer game than the scoreboard suggests. The North defence is struggling to hold up against the Suns forward line, but everywhere else the Roos will be feeling pretty confident.

Jy Simpkin gets a late one for the Roos

D

By Dean Bilton

North Melbourne are finishing this quarter right on top. The ball is living in their forward end, but with only about 30 seconds on the clock it looked like the Suns might avoid any damage.

Not quite. Excellent crumb by Duursma who dished off to Simpkin on the run. An important snap from the former skipper.

Jack Darling has two and North have lifted

D

By Dean Bilton

A few moments ago Darling missed a shot from an almost identical spot, but he wasn't about to make the same mistake twice.

Bit of a shank from McKercher to find Darling, but they all count. North have lifted the pressure and are certainly in the game now.

Ben Long straight from the middle again for the Suns!

D

By Dean Bilton

Goalfest! Now it's Gold Coast straight out of the middle, Rowell's long kick brought to ground for Long to crumb and goal.

Six straight plays two straight. Still six minutes to play in the first quarter.

Jacob Konstanty with the quick response for North

D

By Dean Bilton

That's better from the Roos. Slick work out of the middle by LDU and Sheezel and a nice crumb and snap from Konstanty inside 50.

Looks easy when you can kick them like that. Still yet to see a behind in this game.

Lachie Gulbin extends the Suns' advantage

D

By Dean Bilton

Gulbin had Hardeman in his sights as soon as the young Roo took the ball. He mowed him down and stripped him in the tackle in the blink of an eye, and was rewarded with the free kick.

North are just a step slow both with and without the ball so far.

Ben King slots another one for the Suns

D

By Dean Bilton

It's another free kick, not sure what that one was for. Bit of a hold off the ball by Logue, I guess that's fair enough. Hot whistle at the moment.

King extends his Coleman lead with his first of the afternoon.

Jack Darling kicks a settler for the Roos

D

By Dean Bilton

Bit of an interesting free kick there, as Bodhi Uwland moved Darling under the ball with his body (and maybe a hand, to be fair) and was called for a push in the back. Sometimes they're called, sometimes they're not.

Darling nailed the set shot and the Roos are away.

Touk Miller makes it three in a row for the Suns

D

By Dean Bilton

North have blown a few positives move going forward with a poor final ball, either by hand or foot. The Suns haven't been perfect themselves but are certainly looking more polished inside 50.

Lombard broke the line with his run then handballed inside to Miller, who snapped nicely. Suns get the jump.

أسئلة مفتوحة

  • What was the final score of the match?
  • What is the extent of Daniel Rioli's injury?
  • Will North Melbourne be able to recover from this deficit in the second half?
