Highlights

3QT: Melbourne 8.8 (56) leads Adelaide 8.6 (54)

A

By Andrew McGarry

The siren sounds without further scores, and it's a three-goal apiece third term.

The Crows will be worried about whether Lachlan McAndrew can make it back. Max Gawn is already dominating in the ruck, and if Adelaide has to find someone else to challenge the big man there could be problems.

It's a very close one, with two points in it.

Buckle up, people - this is going to go down to the wire.

Crows injury concerns with Lachlan McAndrew

A

By Andrew McGarry

Right at the end of the third term we've had a big moment, with an aerial contest in Demons' D50.

Jake Lever has crashed into Lachlan McAndrew, and McAndrew is down and hurt.

It looks like he has got smashed in the jaw with an accidental elbow.

He's up and coming off the ground, but he will have to do a HIA there.

It's ferocious out there

A

By Andrew McGarry

The crowd is up and about, the tension is rising, and the players are just firing late in the third quarter.

The tackles are flying in, a smother from the Dees leads to Max Gawn skying a kick that comes down inside 50.

Paddy Cross ends up with the ball, but he has TOO much time, he looks around not knowing what to do with it and is levelled in a tackle for holding the ball!

Deep breaths, everyone.

Demons back in front with goal to Chandler

A

By Andrew McGarry

This is a very good contest now, and the Demons are able to put their stamp on it just now.

Max Gawn wins a clearance, the Demons spread it, there is a wobbly kick to 50 where Jacob Van Rooyen marks, then handballs in to Kade Chandler, who runs and kicks a vital goal!

The Demons lead again entering time on!

Great tackle from Michalanney puts stop to Demons move

A

By Andrew McGarry

To say this is a tight contest right now is an understatement.

The Demons intercepted an Adelaide attack and they were in full flight down the wing, it looked like they were in for a chance for a goal, but Max Michalanney flew in and brought a Melbourne player to ground, rolled him up and earned the free!

Huge cheer from the Crows fans, and a huge effort from Michalanney there.

The Crows hit the front

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Crows have hit a strong patch here, and they are putting the foot down.

They spread it to Ben Keays on the wing, and he goes long to Darcy Fogarty, who takes a big contested mark at the back of a contest.

He kicks the goal, and suddenly the Crows lead by five points.

We're halfway through the third term - and don't ask me who wins this one right now! Momentum is a funny thing, let's see how long the Crows can hold it.

Crows go back-to-back with long goal from Milera

A

By Andrew McGarry

This is ramping up again!

The Crows are raising the intensity, and they went for a long kick through the corridor, it ended up with Wayne Milera, who hoisted a kick on the run from about 55 and it went through!

Milera kicks his second goal of the season, the Crows have back-to-back goals, and this game is back to a one-point margin!

Crows answer with goal to Ben Keays

A

By Andrew McGarry

That was an important moment for Adelaide!

The ball was in contest on the wing, Alex Neal-Bullen managed to steer a kick to Ben Keays inside 50.

Keays has been quiet so far (he's not alone in that!) but his kick goes through from 35 or so metres out.

The home side is back to seven points, and the crowd has something to cheer for. Still early-ish days in the third term.

Demons add another goal from Kade Chandler

A

By Andrew McGarry

This is a worrying start for the Crows here, as the Demons are surging in the third quarter.

They rush it forward, again Max Gawn is involved with a handball that leads to Kade Chandler slinging a kick goalwards - and it goes through too!

A murmur goes round Adelaide Oval, and the visitors lead by 13 points.

Harvey Langford gives Demons an early goal

A

By Andrew McGarry

The Demons have made a fast start to the third term.

The visitors were given a free kick for a contest issue - and the Crows fans were again unhappy!

Max Gawn took the kick and Harvey Langford took a contested mark (a little too easily, perhaps) in forward 50.

He kicked the goal, and the lead is out to seven points.

HT stats

A

By Andrew McGarry

Inside 50s: 30-29 Adelaide

Clearances: 21-20 Melbourne

Centre clearances: 6-4 Melbourne

Contested possessions: 73-64 Melbourne

Uncontested possessions: 150-106 Adelaide

Marks inside 50: 4-3 Adelaide

Tackles: 31-30 Adelaide

Things are pretty even at the minute, the big difference is the uncontested possessions as the Crows are chipping it around with not a huge amount of success.

They managed to raise the pressure in the final stages of the half, and closed in on the Dees.

Fans share memories, pay tribute to Tony Modra after his truck crash

A

By Andrew McGarry

- Andrew McGarry

Today's game has seen the Crows pay tribute to emergency service responders, as they do every year. It so happens that today's celebration came in the wake of Tony Modra's bad crash.

ABC has spoken to a number of the fans at Adelaide Oval to talk about their memories of the former Crows superstar, who is in a stable condition in hospital.

Adam Geisler came to the game wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with Modra's image from his heyday.

Mr Geisler was due to meet the two-time All-Australian and one-time Coleman Medallist at "The Bunker" behind-the-scenes experience.

"Hopefully, he recovers well," Mr Geisler said.

"The show will go with him — of course it will, he's Modra, he's Godra — so he'll make a full recovery, and we'll see him back."

HT: Melbourne 5.6 (36) leads Adelaide 5.5 (35)

A

By Andrew McGarry

The siren sounds and Jacob Van Rooyen has a kick from just outside 50 in the right forward pocket.

It lands nowhere near it, the crowd cheers and a scrappy first half ends with just a point in it!

The Demons will be frustrated with the state of play, given they dominated a lot of the proceedings, but they couldn't find the finish in the second quarter. They had kicked 5.0, but ended up on 5.6 after a string of misses.

Who can straighten up their kicking? We'll find out in a bit.

Darcy Fogarty gets the goal for Adelaide

A

By Andrew McGarry

After all that pressure, and all those misses, in the end it's the Crows who manage to break the deadlock.

They go down the right wing, Sam Berry kicks long to the pocket and Darcy Fogarty marks.

His set shot is a beauty, and it goes through!

Suddenly the Crows are back within a point - is that a circuitbreaker? Will we get more goals now?

Centre clearances the big difference for Dees

A

By Andrew McGarry

The stats are all looking pretty close right now, the big difference is the centre clearances, where the Demons lead Adelaide 6-3.

Demons in charge in low-scoring second quarter

A

By Andrew McGarry

We are about to hit time on in the second quarter, and it's almost as you were.

In fact, after a rushed behind just now, it's exactly as you were.

The Crows have kicked 1.0 and the Demons have kicked 0.6. Six behinds!

But the Crows need to create some more chances, they can't rely on Melbourne failing to find their kicking boots.

If the visitors straighten up, the Crows could be in trouble.

Crows fans not happy with the umpires

A

By Andrew McGarry

I know it's a very uncommon occurrence, but the Crows fans are pretty unhappy with the umpires right now.

There have been a few free kicks rewarding the Demons' pressure and penalising Adelaide's over-exuberant tackling.

They're really revving up right now. We'll keep an eye on things!

Solid contest but a bit scrappy

A

By Andrew McGarry

There's definitely no quarter given at Adelaide Oval, and the tackling has been fierce, but the play has been a bit scrappy.

The Demons were out just now, and they had three one one, but the drawing defence and handballing clear didn't work, and the move broke down.

We're nearly halfway through the quarter, and both sides will be keen to convert more of their chances.

أسئلة مفتوحة

  • Will Lachlan McAndrew be able to return to play?
  • How will the Crows manage without McAndrew in the ruck?
  • Can the Demons convert their dominance into a lead?
