Dockers vs Swans

That's 10 behinds in a row for Freo

K

By Kyle Pollard

Oh no, the appropriately named Jye Amiss has a miss that makes it double figures for Freo now.

Absolutely gettable shot. Should have kicked it.

Papley goals!

K

By Kyle Pollard

He is 100% the most impactful player on the field right now Tom Papley.

A spectacular pass from Errol Gulden finds Papley free in the F50 and his set shot from 40m out on a tight angle is poetry in motion.

He goes after Murphy Reid following the goal because Tom Papley can't not go someone after a goal.

Cox clunks another mark!

K

By Kyle Pollard

Mason Cox is playing like it's a 2018 preliminary final against an unbeatable opponent who is absolutely no chance of losing.

Except he's clunking them around the ground and not forward.

He shows the ball to Hayden McLean after the most recent mark, and I can't say I understand that.

Dockers miss again!

K

By Kyle Pollard

This time Michael Frederick hooks the set shot, and again Jordan Clark must be quietly weeping behind play after it was the speedster again who broke the game open in the middle of the field.

Inches in it for another behind

K

By Kyle Pollard

Former Docker Joel Hamling finds himself in open space Pagan's Paddock like as he runs back towards goal, but Chad Warner's kick is ever so slightly overcooked and it bounces into the post untouched by Hamling.

A real missed opportunity for the Swans.

Swans score with a behind

K

By Kyle Pollard

Another rushed one, this time from Alex Pearce who is playing some sort of game at the moment.

The Dockers forwards will owe the Dockers defenders several beers after this one if they can get up.

Bolton kicks another behind

K

By Kyle Pollard

This reminds me of Fremantle's game against Geelong*, the Dockers just can't kick a major.

Shai Bolton kicks another behind with a unnecessary banana after some lovely work from Murphy Reid that set it up, and it's a real waste.

Patrick Voss then kicks a poor set shot that's hammered over the line by Brodie Grundy.

(*Fremantle won that game when they eventually found their kicking boots).

Five minutes into the second

K

By Kyle Pollard

We're five minutes in and no score for either team, but don't let that fool you ... this is bloody good footy.

The pressure is intense from both teams, this is a heap of fun to watch.

QT: Sydney Swans 3.6 (24) lead Fremantle Dockers 0.5 (5)

K

By Kyle Pollard

It was marketed as a finals-like game between the top two teams and the intensity has certainly lived up to the billing.

Sydney has been spectacular with its cutting runs through the guts and its pressure, while Fremantle's defence has stood up well under a growing heat.

Tom Papley, returning after six weeks on the sidelines, has been a real difference maker for the Swans and has six touches to go along with his opening goal, while Jordan Clark has looked the best for Freo with his dazzling runs from defence.

James Rowbottom (11 touches) leads the possessions for the Swans, while Josh Treacy (8 disposals) has had the pill the most for the Dockers - but they've all been terrible.

Hanily drills the set shot!

K

By Kyle Pollard

It's the Swans moving the ball brilliantly again and they cut the Dockers open through the middle of the field.

James Rowbottom hits up a lovely lead from Tom Hanily, and the young man converts from about 40m out on a slight angle.

Beautiful footy.

A taunting free kick!

K

By Kyle Pollard

Oh dear Fremantle.

Chad Warner runs down Luke Ryan in the forward pocket and wins the free kick. There's a bit of back and forth between the two. Then Warner's snap is a terrible one and falls short, and gets punched through for a point.

Ryan then rubs Warner's head afterwards, which by the letter of the law is a free kick for taunting.

Charlie Curnow takes the free kick at the top of the square and converts.

It's a huge cost for a small act.

Make of it what you will, but Ryan should know the rules.

Another point for the Dockers

K

By Kyle Pollard

Josh Treacy has left his kicking boots at home tonight, and it's his field kicking that's letting him down. Five kicks, none of which have landed.

Meanwhile Mason Cox has had a couple of nice big clunks.

More points for Freo

K

By Kyle Pollard

First it's Josh Treacy who tries the low percentage banana from a rushed kick in the pocket, then it's Shai Bolton who misses a set shot on a slight angle about 40m out.

The Dockers have absolutely settled though and looking a lot better than the first 10 minutes.

Wasted entry after Clark brilliance

K

By Kyle Pollard

Oh brilliant stuff from Jordan Clark out of the defensive 50, as he bursts through the Swans forwards untouched, hits up a target, then recollects the ball on the wing, and hits Josh Treacy on the chest.

Treacy drops the mark then muffs the kick forward and that's no reward for Clark's magic.

More misses for both teams

K

By Kyle Pollard

Charlie Curnow hooks one from the pocket after a lovely pass from Matt Roberts.

The Dockers then go straight down the other end, where Shai Bolton races into the F50 but kicks it to the right of the big posts.

Point for point

K

By Kyle Pollard

Minor scores for both teams here but the Swans are looking the most dangerous of the two through the middle.

Some uncharacteristic skills errors from the Dockers and early on it looks like they're feeling the occasion a little bit more than the Swans.

Papley has the Swans on the board!

K

By Kyle Pollard

First blood Bloods, and it's Tom Papley who kicks in his first game after six weeks on the sidelines!

He takes the uncontested mark in front of goals and snaps truly.

We are underway in Perth

K

By Kyle Pollard

Little Vance from Busselton tosses the coin as a representative for the Starlight Foundation, and the Swans win the toss.

The atmosphere is electric.

WE ARE UNDERWAY.

أسئلة مفتوحة

  • Will kicking accuracy improve?
  • Can Fremantle overcome their early misses?
