Air India will operate non-stop flights between Delhi and Toronto from August 1, 2026, after removing the enroute fuel stop at Vienna and deploying its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the route. The move is expected to cut flying time by nearly three hours and restore daily services between India and Canada's largest city, the airline announced on Tuesday.

The airline said the change is subject to the availability of airspace. The Delhi-Toronto flight will now take around 17 hours instead of about 20 hours, which currently includes a fuel stop in Vienna. The return Toronto-Delhi service will continue to operate non-stop with a flight time of up to 16 hours.

From August 1, Air India will increase services on the Delhi-Toronto route to seven flights a week from the current five. The airline had temporarily reduced frequencies between June and July 2026 because of higher fuel prices and geopolitical developments that affected flight operations.

The upgraded service will be operated using Air India's new line-fit Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which the airline said has been designed specifically for its fleet.

"Canada is home to one of the world's largest and most vibrant Indian diaspora communities, and Toronto has long been one of Air India's most important international gateways," Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said.

"As we continue transforming Air India into a world-class global airline, we are steadily expanding the availability of our newest aircraft and latest cabin products across key international routes. The introduction of our new Boeing 787-9 on the Delhi-Toronto route marks another important milestone, bringing a significantly enhanced travel experience to customers between India and Canada while extending our most premium offerings across North America," he said.

The Boeing 787-9 will introduce Air India's Premium Economy cabin on the Delhi-Toronto route for the first time.

The aircraft features a three-class configuration with 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy Class seats.

Business Class passengers will get fully flat beds, direct aisle access, wireless charging, larger entertainment screens and additional storage. Premium Economy will offer wider seats in a 2-3-2 layout with a 38-inch seat pitch, adjustable leg rests and larger entertainment screens.

Economy Class passengers will have redesigned seats for long-haul travel along with upgraded inflight entertainment systems.

The aircraft also features mood lighting inspired by Indian wellness traditions, a content library of more than 3,000 hours, Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB charging ports, AC power outlets and refreshed onboard dining and amenity kits.

Air India said bookings for the upgraded Delhi-Toronto service are now open through its website, mobile app, customer contact centre and authorised travel agents.
